Freshmen Leadership Organization
Fish Aides was established
27 years ago at Texas A&M. It was created as a freshmen leadership
organization designed to give freshmen the necessary skills to
succeed
outside of the classroom. Since 1979, many Fish Aides have gone on
to become Student Body Presidents, Vice Presidents, Yell Leaders,
and
influential leaders across campus. Four of our past six Student Body
Presidents were Fish Aides, and so were executives of many committees
and organizations across campus. The skills these students have gained
through Fish Aides have greatly influenced their college careers
and
will continue to benefit them after graduation.
Fish Aides is a group of
forty motivated freshmen who are introduced to the workings of Student
Government and taught to become leaders of tomorrow. Fish Aides is a
very popular and recognized organization across campus that attracts a
variety of highly motivated and diverse freshman across campus. The
key to the success of this organization lies within two crucial
aspects:
1: Fish Aides consists of 40 freshman,
4 co-chairs, an Assistant Director, and a Director. This small
group creates a family atmosphere and allows its members to form an
amazing bond in order to grow and work together.
2: These 40 individuals come from all different backgrounds and
bring different experiences and ideas to this group. This amazing
diversity helps to make this family thrive. But, among all of this
variance, there lies a common bond. . . each freshmen is highly
motivated, outgoing, and anxious to succeed. The combination of its
small size and the caliber of its members gives Fish Aides the
opportunity to reach beyond the normal freshman experience.

To serve as a Fish Aide, you must obtain
a minimum G.P.R. of a 2.0 each semester and attend meetings held every
other week and all other mandatory events. At our meetings, there are
guest speakers, sub-committee reports, cool hand-outs, member
concerns, a lot of laughs, and a fun opportunity to hang out with
great friends. Road trips, retreats, picnics, community service,
organized weekend activities, lunch buddies, intramural sports, and
weekly office hours are all integral parts of Fish Aide life. The more
these energized students interact with one another, the closer they
become, and that closeness enables them to be capable of unbelievable
tasks.

"I never thought that 40 strangers
could be stuck in the same room and become friends for life."
"Fish Aides is an organization that
grabs you and pulls you into the Aggie family. Before Fish Aides, we
are merely 40 wandering and lost freshmen who know little about our
new environment, our new lives, and the people who surround us.
During Fish Aides, we bond. We mesh. We have awesome times while
making unbelievable memories. And after Fish Aides, we are one. We
walk away with knowledge, with confidence, with experiences that
have strengthened us, and with companions that will last a
lifetime."
"Fish Aides is the most fulfilling
adventure I've ever experienced. It has most definitely changed my
life."
